There was a time when I thought I would be an anthropologist. The idea of uncovering artifacts from other cultures fascinated me. When I chose art, I thought I had left sociology and anthropology behind, but it turns out I’m always uncovering artifacts from other cultures, turning them over in my mind, and discovering them, months or years later, in my rugs. I am equally as influenced by such contemporary artists as David Hockney and Jasper Johns as by the ancient artists who first carved petroglyphs into the stones of Arizona and the native Australians who have been making dream images for tens of thousands of years.
